I am a parent. My child was accepted to The University of Tulsa, my alma mater. I am responsible for her making that MISTAKE!!!.
When she got there, some idiot TOLD her, THIS is THE PRE-MED program. My 18 year old CHILD was thrust into 18 HOURS of classes. Not basics college classes, but science classes with LABS, some of the most incredibly ridiculously hard tests that even in my graduate school classes I have never seen this level of difficulty. These are BRUTAL classes. MY CHILD tried to tell this “Advisor” “I have to work to support myself. I have a full time job.” I don’t think I can do this. Those pleas fell on deaf ears.
Her response from this bozzo was, “THIS IS THE PRE-MED Program !!! ”
This is what you HAVE to do. Well, she has failed miserably at trying to do 18 hours of hell classes and work and she it too determined to accept my handouts!! SUE TU !! SUE TU!!!
Well, there IS NO such thing as a pre-med program. Most medical school just require that you have a degree in SOMETHING. Basket weaving is fine as long as you can do well on the MCAT and make a good impression during your interview.
Why are we Wasting our time telling each other what we know. Lets sue the school and demand the MONEY BACK !! This is BULLSHIT!! Misadvisement !!!

You may go to any law school as long as you are just willing to get those skills. Americans think that going to law school is synonymous of making lot of money. Associating law school with making lot of money has driven the cost of attendance unaffordable for most of us ( law school officials see that law school applicants are just after money). See the salary and other figures they frequently post on their school’s website to attract potential applicants..
I just graduated from a top 5 law school with good grades and I speak fluent Chinese. I’m sociable and have been involved in many leadership positions. Despite this, law school was a total waste. I’ve interviewed with hundreds of attorneys and applied for many more legal and non-legal positions. I haven’t had a single offer. If I went to any lower ranked school I probably wouldn’t have got nearly as many interviews or callbacks. But I could easily name 25+ people from my graduating class who don’t have a job lined up, or are just taking a 1 year fellowship from the school (it keeps the schools employment figures awesome) just to make it by. The fellowship is less money than I made when I did manual labor before getting a college degree and doesn’t include any health insurance or other benefits. It’s not enough to even pay student loans with… but don’t worry the school will dole out more loans to cover your loans, they’ve got a great repayment system… (it just leaves you in debt forever)
Maybe you grew up privileged enough that you can spend three years and six figures on an endeavor solely for “life skills” but I’d be willing to bet most of us who go to a professional school want skills that will get us a job and improve our economic outlook. And if not at least teach us enough skills to get started on our own. Sure, it’s possible to learn some life skills along the way, but a bunch of professors who don’t give a shit who you are or what you accomplish isn’t going to help much. I assume by your name that you have a job, I bet it’s easy to say that there’s so much more to law school when you’ve got one.
I hope there is a drastic reduction in the amount of people going to law school so that the law schools will finally have to be accountable for recruiting students on false hopes of getting a job upon graduation.
Also, the biggest factor in tuition increases is that the government allows for huge loans to be taken out for school and the law schools deceive people into thinking they’ll get a job that will pay enough to make the loans reasonable.
If you are thinking of law school, don’t.
you should really put emory on this list.
You should take UC Irvine off that list, unless you want to include Hastings and Davis too. At least Irvine gives most of the incoming class generous scholarship.
You can do whatever you want to sir/mam; I appreciate your hard work. But I must say it would please me greatly if you added the University of Oklahoma to your profile list.
I noticed that FIU law school is not on the list…. I’m deciding between FIU and St. Thomas, what’s the big difference? The only difference to me is that St. Thomas has offered me a significant scholarship, FIU has not and I am not a Florida resident so I will have to pay double tuition ($30,000). St. Thomas has also assured me that if I do well the first year they will offer me even more (I hear top 10% receive a full ride, top 25% receive 75% scholarship. They have currently offered me 50%). Money is a huge driving force to me since I am drowning in undergrad loans and will be continuing to fund my own education and living expenses. My question is: Does the money outweigh the quality of education? And how big is the gap (if any) between the two law schools?- Thanks!

I graduated from Willamette University College of Law in 1973. Like over 90% of my graduating class, I passed the Oregon bar on the first try. I got a law related job in state government, and am now retired on an ample pension. I
was thoroughly satisfied with my law school experience.

But the secret to your success is that you graduated in 1973 when the tuition to law school was very low, correct? We’ve heard your story before, but times are different now. Schools are charging $30,000 on the low end, some private schools charging $60,000 for annual tuition.
You forgot to include Quinnipiac School of Law. I attended this institution and found it to be the worst school I ever went too.

I finished my undergrad in ’97, with a 3.4 GPA, but a disappointing 143 on the LSAT. At the time a family friend said he could easily get me into Thomas Cooley (but I knew better.) This site confirmed my wisdom today, but I digress. I just decided to not apply to law school because I knew I’d never get into a T, TT and perhaps not even a TTT. So I thought I would work in the “real world” and retake the LSAT in 3 year and therefore began working in banking in Charlotte. I loved the city but hated the business environment and in 2000 pursued my other passion, Federal Law Enforcement. I can tell you 15 years on the job I’ve never lacked for bread or opportunity. I’ve been a Special Agent for the last 10 of those years and I can tell you I can smoke the average law grad in any constitutional law argument and have vastly more experience than them in practically every area of criminal law. On top of that? Yes, we make far more than the United States Attorneys, especially the new hires not to mention what new grads at small firms make.
Many of you, with your JDs would be prime candidates for the FBI, DHS, CBP, Main Justice, etc. Get on http://www.usajobs.gov and get going. I truly feel very bad for what I’ve read here today. I was recently telling my wife, “perhaps at some point I’ll go pursue my life long dream of law school, even if part-time.” With what I’ve read about what the law schools are doing to so many of you bright graduates I am sorry to hear it. I do only wish the best for many of you going forward. (Yes I know law enforcement is not an option for everyone, but for some of you it is!!) Besides, many of the federal agencies have legal divisions, such as CBP and ICE.
Hofstra needs to be on this list. I graduated in 2008 in the top 5% of my graduating class and was admitted to the Bar in 2009. I spent 3 years trying to find a real “lawyer” job. Went on over a hundred interviews and ended up as an attorney doing contract review for an insurance company. Looking back, I do regret going to law school. I paid 100k in tuition for a job I could do without a law degree.
I don’t understand your list. Are you saying a law degree from UT law or UH law is worthless? UT law is one of the top degrees in the country and guarantees employment. I graduated from UH with a $17k bill which I have made over in spades. I have a great job.
